| Dani Alves has decided to return to Barcelona. He hopes Lionel Messi does the same. |
Alves himself decided to return to Barca after five and a half years defending other clubs such as PSG and Sao Paulo. "Messi is the best player in the history of football. It's strange to be here and not see him, not to have him in the squad," Alves told Radio Catalonia quoted by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
Messi is touted as one of the greatest players during his 20-year career at Barcelona. His story came to an abrupt end last summer as the club was unable to award him a new contract due to La Liga's salary cap rules.
The Argentine superstar then joined PSG on a free transfer. However, Alves believes Messi can return to Barcelona. “Sometimes things don't happen the way we dream. I already told him that he wouldn't be in a better place than here (Barcelona)."

The 38-year-old hopes Messi returns and finishes his playing career at Barcelona. "He told me the same thing when I left. It would be great if Messi finished his career here. Finishing it here would be a great gift for him and the club can take care of it."
Messi is considered the greatest player in Barcelona's history after scoring 672 goals in 778 appearances between 2004 and 2021. He helped the club win 35 trophies, including three titles in 2008-09 and 2014-15.
On the other hand, PSG have tied Messi to a two-year contract with the option of an additional year. The 34-year-old remains open to a return to Camp Nou in the future. "I've always said that I would be happy to help the club," Messi said in an interview in October last year.
